Who can be a Bronco Educator (Tutor)?

Any Bronco who has taken advanced AP classes or college-level courses or equivalents and who has secured a grade of “B” or better is eligible to tutor those specific subjects. Please email rbhscsf@gmail.com if you are interested in tutoring.

 

How do I become a Bronco Educator?

If you qualify to become a bronco educator, you will be invited to complete an online application where you can indicate the subjects you would like to tutor.

 

How will I be matched to a tutee?

As a “Bronco Educator” you will be given access to a weekly list of students who want help in particular subjects and topics. You can sign-up to volunteer against a specific student if it matches your area of expertise.

 

How often and when are the tutoring sessions?

The tutoring session is once a week over zoom. It will be an after school program, every Wednesday from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM. Bronco Educators (Tutors) will be required to sign-in 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.

 

Will I receive volunteer hours for tutoring?

Yes. Your hours of volunteering will be certified by RBHS CSF and can be used to fulfill CSF requirements.

 

What if Tutee does not show up?

If a Tutee does not show up, you will still receive volunteer hours. The tutoring program allows students to walk-in and if you are able to assist a specific student please do so.

 

Can I show up as a tutor to a session even if I did not sign-up to tutor a Student?

Yes. You can be a walk-in tutor. You will receive volunteer hours if a student walks-in and you end up tutoring them.

 

Are there any tips to become an effective tutor?

Yes. Please see the peer tutoring handbook on building connections, using body language, and tips on tutoring, responding, and providing feedback.

 

How will tutoring be done during Covid-19 times?

Until school returns to classroom learning, all tutoring will be virtual and over zoom. Tutors will self-match themselves to a tutee and a breakout room over zoom will be assigned to the pair.

 

Can I tutor over a private zoom call? Will I still be able to receive volunteer hours?

No. Volunteer hours will only be certified when the tutoring session is conducted over CSF conducted zoom sessions.
