MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Each CSF chapter has three levels of student membership:

  1. Associate Members – 2nd Semester 9th Graders and 1st-semester 10th graders (whose grades meet CSF requirements)

  2. Semester Members (2 Quarters) – Students who have met required eligibility standards during the preceding semester and have made proper application for membership

  3. Sealbearer/Life Membership – ARTICLE V, Section 1

Advisory members are faculty authorized by the principal to oversee CSF activities.

Membership Types

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

Associate members are those students who are applying based on grades they earned as a freshman under the constitution of the state CSF Board. Associate membership based on freshman grades does not contribute to the Gold Sealbearer or life-member status. The earliest Freshman can apply to become an Associate member is the Spring term of the freshman year. Students can again apply to become an Associate member in the Fall semester of their Sophomore year.

So the earliest a student can become a regular and active CSF member is in the Spring of the sophomore year (based on grades from the 1st semester of the Sophomore year). Only the grades from the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year count towards Sealbearer or life member status.

Although associate membership is not counted towards Gold Sealbearer status, students are encouraged to apply in the Spring semester of the Freshman year and again in the fall semester of the Sophomore year and be recognized for their academic achievement.

Associte Members

REGULAR/SEMESTER MEMBERS

At the start of each semester (Term), regular/semester applications are open to eligible Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classmen. Semester membership is based on CSF points earned from previous semester grades. All courses taken at RBHS fall into one of the three lists: List I, List II or List III. MEMBERSHIP IS NEITHER AUTOMATIC NOR COMPULSORY. Membership qualification is determined on a semester to semester basis and students must reapply each semester and meet all application deadlines and pay membership dues by the posted deadlines.

CSF SEMESTER MEMBER ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A student must earn a minimum of 10 points from last semester’s grades.

    • The first 4 points must be from LIST I

    • The first 7 points (including 4 from List 1) must be from LIST I and II

    • The remaining points may come from any LIST I, II, or III

  2. NO CSF POINTS are given for physical education, courses taken in lieu of P.E., subjects repeated to improve a grade, courses involving office/teaching assistance, intersession/summer school courses, support courses, special education courses or courses taken on a pass/fail basis.

  3. CSF points are granted for each grade per quarter as follows:

    • a grade of A= 2  CSF points

    • a grade of B= 1  CSF point

    • a grade of C= 0  CSF points

    • a grade of D or F in any course, even in one not used to qualify, disqualifies you from membership at this time.

    • A CITIZENSHIP grade of U disqualifies you from membership and bars you from applying for any scholarships

    • An A or B in an AP or HN course grants the member 0.5 additional points per grade per quarter.

NOTE

  1. Summer School courses SHALL NOT be used for semester membership

  2. Transfer and exchange students are accepted for membership according to the provisions of the State By-Laws, Article IV, Sections 14 and 15. Specific determination is made on a case by case basis and should contact CSF advisory team.

  3. CSF members taking college courses concurrent with high school courses will be granted CSF credits as per Section 10 of CSF bylaws.

LIFE-MEMBERSHIP

Life-members are seniors who have been active CSF members for a minimum of FOUR semesters. At least one of the four semesters must include membership based on the senior year grades. Only semesters membership in the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year count towards life-membership.

SEALBEARER

Sealbearers are seniors who have earned the highest recognition from the RBHS chapter of the California Scholarship Federation. A CSF member becomes a Sealbearer with SIX semesters of membership in CSF. All of these qualifying semesters must be from the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years.

BENEFITS OF LIFE-MEMBERSHIP /SEALBEARER

Evidence of community service is recorded in the CSF approved volunteer hours log or from a letter from the organization on its letterhead attesting to the community service.

CSF Membership

CSF Membership is based on scholarship and is gained after qualifying grades are earned each semester. At RBHS we have a quarter system and a semester is equivalent to two quarters or one term. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements. To secure eligibility for CSF membership, a student must earn sufficient points from pre-approved course lists. MEMBERSHIP IS NEITHER AUTOMATIC NOR COMPULSORY. The CSF application opens within the first four weeks of school reopening. Students must apply for membership during the application window of each term. (See By-Laws, Articles IV, Section 2).

A student who is otherwise eligible but who in the judgment of the adviser and principal is an unworthy citizen may be disqualified from semester membership. This may affect Life (Seal Bearer) membership.
